Prat del Llobregat
Prat del Llobregat lies about 12 kilometres from Barcelona by the delta of
the Llobregat river. It is home to Barcelona's international airport. The airport
is one of the busiest in Europe and takes up nearly a quarter of the area of
the town
The focal point of Prat del Llobregat is the Placa de Sant Jaume or Gothic
square. On Sunday mornings, performances of national Catalan dance are held
here.
For the artistically inclined, the Joan Miró museum has one of its branches
here.
The town also has a lot to offer to sports lovers. The Open Sports Club has
facilities for every imaginable sport ranging from tennis, horse riding and
swimming to yoga, water aerobics and body pump classes.
The real club de golf 'el prat' is an exceptional golf course situated close
to the airport. The 36-hole course has hosted the Spanish Open a number of times
but is open only to the members of the club.
The Llobregat delta nature reserve is worth a detour. It's a medium sized wetland
reserve situated near to the airport.
If you don't mind the sound of planes overhead, you can take in the local flora
and fauna plus there's a small beach here too.
Don't forget to keep and eye out for Prat del Llobregat's famous blue legged
chickens known as gall potablava in Catalan!
