Sabadell
20 kilometres north west of Barcelona, about 190 metres above sea level, Sabadell
is an industrial city, a leading textile centre from medieval times.
The Modernisme Movement played a role in influencing the architecture of this
town. Head to the middle of Sabadell to see the architectural finesse of the
traditional rural house, Casa Duran, which dates back to the 16th century.
The belltower of Sant Fèlix, built in Baroque style, and the architecture of
the 16th century contrasts with the modernist buildings like Hotel Suís (Swiss
Hotel, 1902), the Caixa d'Estalvis (1915), the Mercat Central (Central Market,
1930) and the Torre de l'Aigua (a water tower, 1918).
Sabadell has a history museum and the Dr. Miquel Crusafont Palaeontological
Institute.
Festivals, street fairs, trade fairs and other events keep the town busy all
year, with the traditional festivals of Dijous Gras, Carnival and Saint Jordi,
Aplec de la Salut and the main Annual Festival.
You can find traditional Spanish cuisine here - chicken with small lobsters
and meatballs cooked with prawns are few of the favourites here.
