Cervera tourist information

Cervera is in the province of Lleida, Catalonia, and the capital of the local region of Segarra, located between the Ondara riverk and the mountain pass of Les Savines.

The town is known for its large commercial growth rate and Cervera has an active cultural and artistic life as can seen at the Stately Home of Duran i Sanpere and the International Music Courses held here, or even the traditional plays of the Passion of Christ.

It was the site of the Universitat de Barcelona for around 150 years after the War of the Spanish Succession. According to an urban legend, the then new king Philip V was happy with the loyalty shown by the town towards his party. He is said to have asked the town principals what kind of reward they wanted. They decided the reward should be seaports, however, the king awarded them the university of the rebel Barcelona.
