Guides & Maps on Andalusia

The Andalusia region of Spain is made up of a charmingly contrasting landscape, culture, and traditions.

From fascinating Moorish monuments to sparkling blue seas, Gothic cathedrals to lovely white hill towns, Andalusia is an exuberant province, perfect for Flamenco dancing, bullfighting and grand fiestas.

Every town in Andalusia has a quaint mix of Christian and Islamic influence, thanks to its history of mixed race occupation.

Apart from Andalusia's architectural splendour, the region offers the chance to trek in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada as well as go surfing at Tarifa.

Andalusia hosts fiestas all round the year. The week before Lent, Holy Week, the International Guitar Festival and horse races are just a few of several fests held in the region.

Days Out in Andalusia
>> The Alhambra - Granada - one of the most famous tourist attractions in Europe, this is a stunning palace-city in Granada that has a classic combination of Renaissance Christian, medieval Islamic and modern architectural nuances.

>> The Cathedral of Seville - the largest church in the world, the central nave is 42 metres high. The final resting place of Christopher Columbus, it is the site of a former 12th century mosque

>> Pueblos blancos or White towns- Cádiz and Ronda - the White towns offer an untouched view into Andalusian life. Rows of immaculate, whitewashed houses on narrow, winding lanes are surprisingly appealing despite the ruined fortifications.
>> Coto Doñana national park- Cádiz - a wetland reserve for migratory birds from north and central Europe and Africa, it has three kinds of ecosystem- the marismas, the Mediterranean scrublands and the coastal mobile dunes with their beaches.
