Antequera
Picturesquely located on a fertile plain, the town of Antequera dates back
to the Bronze Age.
The local castles, Gothic churches, fountains and towers display a strong Roman
and Gothic influence.
This affluent town has grown to become one of the local economic centres in
an area where the landscape can turn a sunny yellow when the wild sunflowers
bloom.
Antequera leads in the production of cereals, olives and asparagus - evidence
of its agricultural prosperity.
A visit to "The Lovers' Leap", also known as 'La Peña de los Enamorados'
that stands at a height of 880 metres, is a popular attraction to visit
The town has its churches, houses and citadels for you to explore and discover.
The intriguing megalithic mass tomb from the Iberian era that dates back more
than 5000 years is a highly absorbing attraction to visit.
A trip to the Cueve de la Menga, one of the most prominent excavation sites
of the city, has displays illustrating the story of numerous skeletons that
were once dug out from its chambers.
Another highly recommended place to visit is the Najera palace that has now
been converted into the municipal museum.
Out and about the El Torcal nature park is an ideal destination to try.
