Santillana Del Mar

Santillana is a the favourite spot for locals as well as tourists. The focal point of Santillana is the Plaza de Ramón Pelayo that also contains the church of Santa Maria, an example of the Roman architecture, the chapel also has the panthocrator- the image of Christ inscribed within an almond shaped structure.

The most tourist attraction of the town is the Altamira Caves or the Cuevos De Altamira and adjoining the caves is a museum that preserves exceptional wall paintings.

Wandering along the Calle de Santo Domingo, visitors to Santillana can admire the Merino and Don Berjo towers, which claim to be the oldest towers of the region., and the beauty of the Velarde palace and a host of other houses along the streets.

The palace of the Barreda-Bracho is one place tourists should not fail to see, at least for its sheer grandeur, just drop in here for a quick lunch as the palatial palace is now transformed into a modern parador.

Cuevas de Altamira 39330, Founded by Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola in 1879 these mysterious caves house some of the most valuable wall paintings of the pre historic times.,

Collegiate Church of Santillana del Mar A fine example of Medieval architecture, the church has intricate art works and paintings in its interiors.,
