Albacete is in the region of Castilla-La Mancha and
the province varies from the flat northern parts to
the mountainous southern area that culminates in the
Sierra de Alcaraz ranges.
Albacete is a land of distilleries, cutlery and saffron.
The natural lagoons of Parque Natural de las Lagunas
de Ruidera, set on the high plateau of Campo de Montiel,
has an impressive array of flora and fauna to its credit
and many migratory birds make a stopover here.
Some interesting places include the museum of the Drum
and Holy Week (Museo del Tambor y Semana Santa), the
church of Our Lady of the Ascenscion Iglesia de Nuestra
Señora de la Asunción, built between 1546 and 1616,
and the sanctuary of Christ of Antiquity and the Virgin
of the Incarnation famous for its murals and rococo
decorations.
The province of Albacete captures the best tradition
of La Mancha gastronomy with the signature dishes of
gazpachos or galianos -game meat cooked with cakes and
mushrooms.
Though the capital Albacete is a modern looking city
and not renowned as a tourist hot spot, this town encompasses
some interesting sights plus some parks, as well as
a few good restaurants. Los Jardinillos is a lively
place; it becomes a centre stage to many of the live
concerts in the city.
Albacete Race Track would be a good option for the
racing fanatics.
Other main towns include Hellín, Almansa, Villarrobledo,
La Roda and Caudete.
