Guadalajara , in the northern part of the Castile-La Mancha region, is an Arab name that means "river of stones.

Although not a major tourist destination, it has many attractions that hold the traveller's interest.

Lagos, Entrepeñas and Buendia are ideal for an array of water sports.

Other towns of interest include Sigüenza, Brihuega, Atienza, and Cogolludo to name a few .

The alleys of Bornoba and Sorbe are any nature lover's delight. Guadalajara has many rivers that include the Upper Tajo which are suitable for fishing and private game reserves.

Traditional delicacies include the roast lamb and kid "migas", the trout and river crab and the "bizcochos borrachos (sweet wine cakes).

Its capital Guadalajara, nestled on the Henares River, is renowned for its historic buildings such as the Palacio del Infantado, Plaza del Mercado (Plaza Mayor) and innumerable churches. It is twinned with many cities of the world that include Nuneaton in England, Roanne in France, Livorno and Parma in Italy.

>> Palacio del Duque del Infantado in Guadalajara city - the Palacio del Duque del Infantado, built for the Mendoza family in rich Gothic and Mudéjar overtones that is considered the symbol of the city.

>> The castle of Zafra at Molina de Aragon - originally belonging to the Lords of Molina who used it as a secure refuge in their feuds with the Castilian and Aragonese Kings, it was never won by any of its many invaders. It is famous for its natural Hexagonal prisms.
