| Calella de Palafrugell
Calella de Palafrugell is a picturesque coastal town - stone houses dot the
hillsides and traditional fishing boats called mallorquinas line the shores.
Some of the more secluded coves are only accessible from the sea.
Diving enthusiasts can explore the sea bed near the Illes Formigues for some
superb wreck diving.
The beaches are clean here and the waters crystal clear. The El Golfet beach
is famous for the Cap Roig botanical garden that overlooks it. During summer,
a music and theatre festival is held in the garden. The festival has witnessed
performances of world-renowned artists over the years.
The annual Havanera song festival is also of noteworthy praise. The festival
is marked by the singing of Havanera songs which were originally sung by soldiers
and tradesmen.
Calella de Palafrugell is also home to the one and only cork museum in Spain.
It charts the different processes involved in the manufacture of cork.
The La Fundacio Josep Pla museum is worth a visit and showcases photographs
and works by the author.
If you want to experience the local cuisine, try Garoines (sea urchins) and
black pork sausage with cremate.
