Sant Feliu de Guixols
Named after the martyred Saint Feliu, the Spanish town of Sant Feliu de Guixols
is situated on the Costa Brava.
Located on the southern end, on a small bay, at the convergence of the mountains
of Sant Elm and the hills of El Molí de les Forques, Sant Feliu de Guíxols is
known for its cork industry and maritime tradition.
Located only 110 kilometers from Barcelona, this seaside town has a pleasant,
Mediterranean climate, and good beaches, the ideal place for a perfect holiday.
The stately monastery, which now houses the San Feliu museum, is a protected
monument, and the the town cemetery still has a wall dating back to the 17th
century and a number of sepulchers reflecting the transition of style over the
centuries.
San Feliu owes its buildings and air of prosperity to the ancient cork industry
which was based here. The Museu de la Vila has a collection of artifacts carved
out from cork and a rare assortment of paintings. You can taste a variety of
cork shaped sweets and trefins, at the markets held on Sunday.
For a night out - try the Nou Casino de la Constancia.
Shrimp canelones, fideuá, beef sirloin with mustard and rosemary sauce are
some of the region's specialties that you can find in local restaurants..
